| Brian McDonough has been training in the martial arts for 20 years starting at age 15. Kenpo, jiu jitsu, kickboxing, bo jitsu,grappling and boxing are the disciplines that Brian teaches and studies to this day. Brian was promoted to First Dan (shodan) in May 1999, Second Dan (nidan) in March 2004 and Third Dan (sandan) in December 2006. Brian received his rank from his Kenpo Instructor Sensei/Sifu Edward Gaul whom was a student of the late Professor Nick Cerio. Mr. Gaul was also a student of the late Master Gan Fong Chin whom was said to be a descendant of the Shaolin Temple. Mr. Gaul was one of only three people to ever receive ranking from the man. Brian has had the privilege to work with and receive instruction from some of the most recognized martial arts instructors in the world such as Tadashi Yamashita,Fumio Demura and Bruce Juchnik. Brian has competed and participated in all aspects of the martial arts including point sparring,continuous sparring,full contact kickboxing,grappling, jiu jitsu,boxing,weapons,self defense and kata. Brian is a former two time USA team member in full contact kickboxing and participated in the World Championships with 59 other countries in Italy. Most recently Brian competed at the NAGA New England Grappling Championship. Brian is educated and has been working in many aspects of fitness for the past 15 years including sales,service,personal training and group training. Brian was certified as a trainer in 2000,2003 by the I.F.P.A an accredited and nationally recognized organization.(ifpa-fitness.com) Most recently Brian was certified in the most intense,functional and technique orientated training program in the world known as Crossfit (crossfit.com). Crossfit integrates intensity,variance of technique,functional and sport specific exercises all scaled to the needs of the user. Brian is first aid/cpr certified, fitness cycling experienced and has continued education from Club Industry East Conference- "Prospecting, marketing and selling in the New Millennium" & "Weight Loss Success", AFAA-“Analyze and Build Functional Exercise” and I.F.P.A "Performance Stretching" Brian has a personal training clientele that includes business professionals,military,law enforcement,amateur/pro fighters,youth,athletes and every day people whom just want to get in shape. Some high profile clients include professional actors Richard Gere, Jason Isaacs,Kevin Chapman,Jason Clarke,Cary Takagawa and local news anchor Wendy Chicetti. Brian was the martial arts technical advisor on the feature film Hachiko: A Dog's Story starring Richard Gere. Brian is the Co Founder/Director of one of the most innovative youth programs in Rhode Island called the Ishi Dojo Youth Center. Ishi Dojo offers at risk, inner city youth an opportunity to participate in martial arts, theatre, dance, nutrition workshops, boxing, fitness activities,field trips and tutoring. The center is a certified non profit, class a facility in Providence. Brian has received recognition and citations from Mayor David Cicilline, Governor Donald Carcieri, Attorney General Patrick Lynch and State Representative Joseph Almeida for his work in the community. |
