Member of the Month – June 2016 – Kayla Flynn

Kayla joined CFEP a little over a year ago and took the am classes for several months before switching to pm classes. She’s one of few that are familiar with all our coaches. Kayla is a school teacher in Fall River, Ma. and enjoys CrossFit among many other interests. She is 28 weeks pregnant and usually works out and teams up with her partner Jaimee.  Being pregnant hasn’t stopped her from performing at her best. She takes care of her health and understands the importance of scaling and modifying the day’s workout.

CFEP: Hi Kayla, can you tell us what got you interested in CF?

Kayla: I wanted to be a ninja warrior!

CFEP: Do you remember your first workout?

Kayla:  Those first workouts were a blur. I was very nervous and remember not having a clue what was going on. Even the rower was a challenge, I got my feet stuck!

CFEP: What is something about you we might not know?

Kayla: I went to college for sustainable agriculture the first time around. Our school had a working farm and I had my own cow named Peanut.

CFEP: What is your greatest achievement in the gym so far?

Kayla: Aside from making it this far with my workout partner in tow ( Baby Flynn) I’d say my second greatest achievement was learning the toes to bar. I worked hard for an entire summer and when my feet finally made it up there, it was a great feeling! Although I’m not busting out the toes to bar these days, I am looking forward to getting back to it as soon as I can.

CFEP: What’s your best tip for new members?

Kayla: Be humble – CrossFit is hard stuff. It takes time and dedication to learn all the movements. Even though I have spent over a year chipping away, there are many things I am nowhere close to mastering. You will have hard days but there will be support at CFEP. The members are some of the least judgmental and most supportive people I have met.

CFEP: What’s your favorite CrossFit movement? 

Kyla:  Hands down it’s the kettle bell swing.

CFEP: How CrossFit affected your life outside the Gym?

Kayla: I sleep well and I feel great. Whether I start or end my day with CrossFit I feel very accomplished and content.
