The secret to success is simpler than you might realize. The single factor that separates the ultra successful from everyone else is that successful people endure short-term pain (even seek it out) for long-term gain, while unsuccessful people give into short-term pleasure (even seek it out) and experience long term pain.

Nutrition

Successful people say “no” to a piece of birthday cake when everyone else is chomping away, which is painful in the short-term. It’s so much easier and more enjoyable to dive into the cake with everyone else. But, if you want to have abs and be healthy, you have to endure short-term pain for long-term gains.

Unsuccessful people give into the short-term pleasure of the cake, either not knowing or overlooking the long-term effects. They would rather give into the “quick” pleasure now, forgoing the “lasting” pleasure of abs, health, and confidence later on. Unsuccessful people take the easy way out now, and suffer later.

Training

Successful people make sacrifices. They do what others find painful and hard, and push themselves in workouts day after day. They challenge themselves with heavy weights, work on technique, and suffer through tough sprint workouts. It would be so much easier to skip the gym today (or just go through the motions), but if you want to results, you have suffer now to succeed later.

Unsuccessful people see the hardship and hurt associated with training, so they find things that are more enjoyable, fun, and easier than spending an hour in the gym. Those focused on the short term avoid working on their weaknesses, they go through the motions, and aren’t willing to push themselves today.
